Historic
This is a new, roll-related post. Our School currently has 1280 young people and over the coming years this roll will rise, leading to the new position. Our young people come from 2 Local Authorities as our catchment straddles the boundary of South and North Lanarkshire.
Pupil Support is split into a vertical House Structure, named after Scottish Islands. This new post-holder will oversee Harris House.
Pupil Support is line managed by Gary Anderson DHT and each Housegroup has 200 or so youngsters from S1-6. We are a mainstream school with an Additional Support Needs Department supporting Visually Impaired youngsters from across Lanarkshire and beyond (We are the Secondary provider for all Lanarkshire VI young people on specialist placements)
Our school has been a pivotal part of the Uddingston Community since 1864 and our young people come from diverse backgrounds and socio-economic areas eg we have 10% or so from Decile 1, 10% in Decile 6 etc. We are a true example of a comprehensive school.
We have invested significantly in Health and Wellbeing across the School, with bespoke, school based programmes working as part of the wider Pupil Support structures including RISE, a programme targeting girls; RISE+, a Mental Health and Wellbeing programme which pre-dates Counselling Through Schools and sits in partnership with them; HWB periods in the BGE timetable as well as PSHE; and our wider PEF structures, supporting families, DYW, MIND mentoring, a programme supporting boys; digital engagement and Counselling Through Schools.
The structures support staff in ensuring they have the information and support required to make the right decisions for young people and their families. These are supported via JAT and the wider GIRFEC processes associated with a Local Authority.
Our young people are amazing.
The postholder will guide, lead, nurture, challenge and support a team of 200 or so outstanding young people through a series of transitions – into school, through a series of learner pathways, ensuring equity of access to the curriculum both in school and the wider curriculum, and eventually out of school into employment, training, College or University. In between times, they also become teenagers and grow up. It is a privilege to be trusted by families to look after their wee ones during the most formative time of their lives, and the post-holder will bear lots of responsibility to get it right for every young person in their Housegroup and indeed across the school.
The postholder will work closely with SLT via Gary; helping develop the Improvement Plan for Pupil Support; manage their Housegroup; oversee the CP requirements and legislative areas of Pupil Support; teach and lead on the thematic areas of PSHE and HWB; teach their own subject; lead on Family Engagement for their Housegroup as well as all other aspects of Pupil Support.
We are looking for a dynamic, forward thinking team-player who wishes to work with a team of excellent staff and amazing young people. If this sounds like a post you are interested in, please apply for it at the link below and good luck.
